In accordance with its mandate to strengthen
research and innovation in higher education, Higher Education South Africa
(HESA) will be hosting a Research and Innovation Conference.
Under the theme, STRENGTHENING
COLLABORATION BETWEEN HIGHER EDUCATION, GOVERNMENT AND INDUSTRY FOR
RESEARCH AND INNOVATION, the Conference will bring together senior
government ministers, directors-general, a wide range of research and
innovation scholars, higher education leadership, business leadership, advisory
and research and innovation councils, to outline a vision and chart an
agenda for research and innovation in South Africa.

join us at the CSIR Conference Centre on Thursday, 11 – Friday, 12 March 2010.
The conference will have plenary sessions interspersed with panel
discussions and parallel sessions featuring distinguished experts in research
and innovation. Conference delegates will have an opportunity to engage on
the following:
a.
Government’s
vision for the research and innovation system for South Africa within the
context of a knowledge-based economy;
b.
The legislative and policy landscape governing
research and innovation in South Africa and its implications for the higher
education sector;
c.
The contribution of the different role players,
i.e. industry, science councils, the higher education sector and other
agencies in building and/or strengthening a research and innovation system
for South Africa;
d.
Mechanisms
and structures and partnerships that will be necessary for effective facilitation,
coordination, monitoring, planning and implementation of inter-sectoral
plans aligned to the achievement of the research and innovation policy
initiatives.
e.
Allocation
of resources to research and innovation.
There is NO
